Philips and Lite-On is positioned with the Blu-Ray

With the battle of the new formats decided in favor of Blu-ray Disc, position itself as an important element in this chain is vital for almost all brands that want to say something in these boom years of such discs. Having access to patents without paying royalties is therefore vital.

Philips and Lite-On have formed an alliance to do just that. On one side it has joined a brand, Philips, members of the association Blu-ray Disc and owns several patents relating to Blu-ray Disc, so you have free access to them. At the other extreme is Lite-On (acquired the business of optical storage BenQ), with its ability to produce hardware. Together, they want to become a benchmark in terms of equipment and Blu-ray discs.

The new partnership leads by name Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions, and strengthen the presence of both brands in the world Blu-ray Disc. For example, for the second quarter of this year and is scheduled to arrive at the market a version of the external unit reader Blu-Ray discs cost of Lite-On. We hope that such unions always benefited the user leaves, which relates interest of marks for bringing products to market-related economic Blu-Ray to avoid thinking that winning the war as soon was the best thing that has happened to this format and the worst thing for the user.
