Panasonic SD9, we tested
The Panasonic SD9 is one of the compact Video Cameras that are being fashionable. Still several interesting things: compact size, burning in memory cards and FullHD resolution.

The Panasonic SD9, which has recently been galandonada with the prize types (association of the Technical Image Press) for best video this year 2008, has been in our hands for a few days to evaluate it.
Before seeing the full analysis, we advance that the image quality is quite good, but what is most striking is its size, smaller than we could imagine, but for the same reason that has left us a couple of doubts that are more inconvenience to real problems.
From the Panasonic SD9 we will focus first on their specifications. To begin with a video camera that boasts record in high definition (1920×1080p) with the help of memory cards and SDHC AVCHD format. As we shall see, these aspects have positive points but also negative.
Size and management
To save on memory cards is an advantage when it comes to making a lightweight and compact Video Camera. The size of this Video Camera really surprised us, and their weight the same, with less than 300 grams. Despite your size, management is comfortable, and only if we have a very big hand can lead to discomfort and problems that can lead us by example to clog or introduce noise into the microphone. We take longer to discuss one of the most notable absences from this Video Camera: the mic. While incorporating has been successful, and the camera is aimed at fans who will have more than enough with the micro integrated, providing an entry had risen more note of the Video Camera SD9 few tenths.
Regarding the sound, saying that he recorded in Dolby Digital 5.1. and has zoom function into the microphone, which picks up directionality as we approach with the zoom to a plea. EÑ zoom incidentally is 10 increases, and control over it, soft.
Controls and connections
The points that we have less like this Panasonic Video Camera SD9 has been the subject of checks, their location or modifying them. It is certainly a price to pay if we have the size so small that they have gained with this video camera.
The joystick to control the menus, that the model SD5 and others, was on the outside, has been switched to the inside of the screen, so that we can no longer operate the camera with one hand. And really what we miss.
Yes they have more right to take the view very interesting two functions: Pre-Rec, which as you have, when we checked, is continuously recorded the previous three seconds to open the camera to record. Imagine a scene that must be recorded quickly, because when they open the screen or turn on the camera, the system already abrá recorded the previous three seconds. Great. In addition, the camera comes on and puts into operation in a few tenths of a second. We liked a lot.
The other feature that Panasonic has taken abroad to highlight, is the new face detection, he has worked very well.
As always, the manual controls are an option in this Panasonic Video Camera. We also note the OIS image stabilization, which works better every day (Panasonic great job in this aspect), and the improvements that councils and the interface we will record while commenting, but they occupy most of the screen, which annoys times.
In the interface and menus Panasonic has maintained the good work of previous cameras.

On the issue of connections, the most notable addition to the USB port, HDMI connectivity. The small size of the camera makes connections are scattered everywhere. In the case of HDMI port has been hidden under the battery, but is not much problem because as we shall see, to connect the Video Camera to your computer or the television, we must connect the power supply, although the battery Tenaga autonomy to play well content. We never liked this decision, but usual.

Operation and screen
As we have said, launching the Video Camera SD9 not cost us anything. It turns on instantly and is ready to burn. It does so in SD and SDHC, but definitely recommend the type and SDHC class at least 4 to ensure proper quality recording.
The results are quite acceptable, perhaps we could put some but when the brightness is low, but little more. The 3CCD technology can be seen in the image quality and color, as usual, rezuman color and contrast. And the goal Leica is always a guarantee. On the subject of photos, remains a little extra absurd that we will draw some trouble very small.
The recording had to do with the screen completely. It is 2.7 inches, but seems smaller by the overall size of the Video Camera. But it is time we make the touch, because the operation of the camera would be better. The joystick has never liked us, although its management is effective.
Disadvantages
The battery is one of the protagonists of the disadvantages that we found this camera. The model of autonomy which comes standard is one hour, which is not bad for a camera so compact.
The problem comes when we recrgarla therefore we must remove it from the camera. But to do so, we must open the screen, and if we have the Pre-Rec function activated, the camera will turn on, will open the lens and immediately turns off the camera, which leave open.
Nor do we have liked to move videos to the computer, which has removed the battery and use mandatory food, which incidentally is connected beneath the battery.
The last aspect of which we complain, but not the fault of this Video Camera, is AVCHD format, which has given us a thousand headaches and we could only edit properly with the program Pinnacle Studio 11. Much remains to improve all the brands on this format.

Our final recommendation is that unless you want a very small camera, the Panasonic SD5 gives us almost the same thing and it gave us better results in the test.
